Yamagawa Sand Bath Hot Spring "Sayuri"
"Sand bath in the sky and seaside sauna experience - An invitation to Yamakawa Sand Bath Hot Spring "Sayari""
Yamakawa Sand Bath Hot Spring "Sayuri," located in Yamakawa, Ibusuki City, Kagoshima Prefecture, is an experiential hot spring facility that combines the beach and hot springs, and was reopened on December 5, 2024. Using natural hot springs that well up from Fuseme Coast, which overlooks Mt. Kaimon, its greatest attraction is the "sand bath," which can be enjoyed as a "natural sauna" while feeling the warmth that slowly rises from under the sand, the sound of the waves, and the sea breeze.
This area has a geothermal water vein containing hot spring components beneath the sandy coast, and you can enjoy the unique bathing experience of digging in the sand and lying down to warm your whole body. It is known as a rare facility where you can experience the two natural worlds of the sea® and hot springs.
Attractions and Experience Points
1. The one and only hot spring experience of "sand baths"
Sand baths are a way of bathing in which you dig a hole in the sand, lie down, and cover yourself with warm sand. The warmth of the sand penetrates deep into your body. After experiencing the sand baths, you can wash away the sweat by immersing yourself in the on-site hot spring facilities (indoor baths, etc.), and you'll feel refreshed and lighter. At Yamakawa Sand Baths, you can enjoy this all-in-one experience.
During the experience, yukata and tenugui towels are provided for rent (included or separate fee depending on the facility), and preparations are in place so that even first-timers can enjoy the experience with peace of mind.
2. A sense of unity with nature and the seascape
Sunayuri faces Fushime Coast, offering a direct view of Mt. Kaimon. Lying in front of the sea, you can see the horizon and mountain ranges, hear the sound of the waves and the wind, and feel the warmth of the sand... you can feel an exquisite sense of oneness with nature. On clear days, you can even see the silhouettes of islands in the distance, and the view is truly satisfying.
3. Health and healing effects and benefits
The sand bath hot springs at Yamakawa Sayuzato are said to be beneficial for promoting blood circulation, improving metabolism, relieving fatigue, and improving sensitivity to cold, thanks to the combination of the warmth of the geothermal water veins and the coastal environment. The waters (combined with the sand bath and hot spring) have also been reported to have skin-conditioning properties, thanks to their sodium chloride properties.
Sand bath experiences generally last about 10 to 15 minutes, and it's important to manage your time according to your physical condition so as not to put too much strain on yourself.
4. Enhanced comfort through renovations
Since the renovation, the facility's facilities and services have been improved. The reception, waiting area, changing rooms, and flow design have been revised to reduce stress for users, creating an environment where everyone from beginners to veterans can visit with peace of mind. In addition, the convenience of the attached facilities (such as hot spring facilities, rest areas, and parking lots) has also been improved, which has increased overall satisfaction.
