overview

This tour is wonderful year-round, rain or shine. Start with a vehicle tour of the city, then head to the Shimazu clan's 800-year-old estate. Explore beautiful gardens, UNESCO heritage sites, samurai architecture, and hidden walking trails straight out of the film. Explore the museum and learn about the clan's history and industrialization through armor, cannons, stonework, and more! Then, stop at a beach-view coffee shop and admire Sakurajima's volcano from a safe distance. A short train ride takes you to the main station, where you'll have lunch on Kagoshima wagyu beef and explore the downtown area. From there, depending on your time and your group's interests, you can choose to do some Japanese shopping, take a stroll along the riverwalk if cherry blossoms are in season, or take the scenic street train back to the port. This tour is perfect for seniors, couples, and families. Our guide is a Japanese/English-speaking Kagoshima-only tour operator with 20 years of experience.
