Acala x Mandala - Art of protection and purification that embodies the mercy of anger
Acala is a deeply revered Buddhist deity with the power to "cut away confusion and lead people to truth." He is known for his fierce, angry expression and appearance engulfed in flames, but his anger is not a symbol of fear; rather, it is a manifestation of his compassion to protect people. It is said that he has taken on a stern appearance in order to cut off confusion, anxiety, and bad relationships and guide people to the path they should take.
In this work, I have combined the strength of Acala with the cosmic harmony of the mandala to depict a dynamic and sacred worldview. The mandala that unfolds in the background symbolizes "harmony, circulation, and the center of the heart," visually highlighting the protective and purifying energy of Acala. The golden line drawings and the depiction of vigorously burning flames overlap to create a composition that conveys both strength and majesty.
The artist himself undertook this work with the desire to "express the power of Acala together with the mandala," and it is a piece that seriously tackles a highly spiritual theme. The work evokes feelings of "strength," "determination," and "purification" in the viewer, and has a presence that tightens the entire space.
