[Satsuma Ware, Honba Chotaro Ware] Kurochiyoka (Kurojoka) ~A blissful sake cup that embodies the breath of Sakurajima~

Kurochiyoka is a traditional tableware created in Kagoshima to allow you to enjoy shochu in the most delicious and elegant way.

This product is a masterpiece produced by the Ibusuki Chotaro Pottery Kiln, which carries on the skills and spirit of the "First Chotaro," who is said to have devised the unique shape.

■ Product Features

  • A unique sculpture that captures Sakurajima

The flat, dignified shape of this tableware is said to have been inspired by the majestic Sakurajima Island in Kinko Bay, and was created by the founder, Chotaro. Its stability, as if rooted in the earth, and beautiful curves that are the pinnacle of practical beauty, bring an overwhelming presence to the dining table.

  • A magical vessel that "nurtures" shochu

Shochu that has been diluted with water (maewari) is placed in Kurochiyoka, left to sit for a few days, and then slowly warmed over low heat (or a heat source such as an open fire). The far-infrared effects of the ceramic and convection currents will then transform the flavor into a surprisingly mellow, rounded taste.

  • The profound brilliance of "Black Satsuma"

The jet-black glaze is made primarily from iron-rich soil and volcanic ash. The more shochu soaks into the glaze with use, the deeper the luster develops, a process that is a blissful pleasure for enthusiasts.

■ History and commitment

Chotaro-yaki is a representative Satsuma-yaki pottery manufacturer that has been in business since the Meiji period. Kurochiyoko, invented by the first generation, is more than just a sake cup; it is a part of the lifestyle and culture of Kagoshima. The "authentic" texture created by the craftsmanship of artisans has a warmth and strength that cannot be found in mass-produced products.

As this is authentic ceramic, please avoid sudden heating or leaving it empty. By cooking it slowly, you can use the dish for a long time.
