[The scenery of Ibusuki in the palm of your hand. Ibusuki Chotaro Ware "Night Sea" Rock Cup]
The "Night Sea" series was created by a long-established potter in Ibusuki, Kagoshima, inspired by the stillness of Kinko Bay at night. The delicate gradation of the deep indigo glaze changes its appearance depending on the angle and lighting, making each piece truly unique.
The unevenness of the "rokuro-me" (horizontal stripes) that feels comfortable on your fingertips is proof that each piece has been carefully crafted by a skilled artisan. As you would expect from Satsuma, the home of shochu, the aroma will rise when you pour hot water into it, and when you enjoy it on the rocks, the sound of the ice gently envelops you. This is a special cup that allows you to forget the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy a relaxing evening.
★Tips for oyuwari: Satsuma ware (earthenware) can be sensitive to sudden temperature changes. You can come across as being considerate by adding a comment like, "When making oyuwari, pour in the hot water first, then add the shochu. This is gentle on the vessel and brings out the aroma more."
